hey it's nice to have found a tutorial for glitters on gimp...maybe you can help me out. when i try to fill the text with the pattern, it won't fill, it will only fill the background. i tried "select/float" but it still won't fill the text. any ideas what i might be doing wrong??

Let's see...I'm trying to think...... I remember that happening to me one time, but I can't quite remember why it wasn't working... Hmm. You have the three copies of the main background, right? And they all should be set to stransparent. In the layers dialog box, is it highlighting the layer that you are trying to add the glitter to? And is it set to visable?
Just trying to think of all the things that could be the cause...

(ignore the purple) See where the eye symbol is? If that is on, it means that if you would add glitter to that layer, you would be able to see it. But if it is off, then the glitter is still ther, you just can't see it.

Hmm. You said the background only fills with glitter right? So everything but the text is glitter, and the text is still the color that you typed it in? If so, I think I may have figured it out. I was just playing around in gimp, trying to figure out why it was doing this, and I think I got it. In the dialog box (in my previous post), see where there is a little square of different shaded gray blocks like right above where it says 100.0? Well the little box to the left of that should be marked (have a check mark). Do that, and then create the two copies of the background layer.

Are all of the layers set to visible? If they are, then you won't actually see the glitter until you put it on the top layer because the black from that layer is blocking it. I usually set all the layers to invisible until I am ready to add glitter to that layer, then I make it visible.

Oh, ok. Hold on, let me play around with gimp a minute and see if I can figure out what you are doing.

Ok, are you sure that the little box in the layers dialog is check marked? It is just a tiny little square with checkered different shades of gray. There is a place just to the left of it that you can click on and it will be check marked. I tried it out, and it filled the whole thing with glitter like you said it was doing for you.

sorry i'm going to try to start over from the beginning. these are things i'm not sure if i'm doing right: my glitters, when i open them in gimp i don't know how to get each frame seperate. so i just used on frame and flipped it around so it's 3 different ones...could this be part of the problem? when it says to merge the 2 layers after you put in the text, should i do this: image/merge visible layers, or layers/merge down? i'm making sure the box is checked to keep the transparency.... i'm sorry it's no rush, it's ok if you can't help but i appreciate you trying! i've had this gimp for a long time but i could never figure it out and couldn't find any tut's until this one! thanks a lot!

Yeah, you should go to Image>Merge Visible Layers. It's no problem! I have to go to bed now though, but if you will be online tomorrow I can help you then. We can go through it step by step if you need to.
